An ATM cell processing system and method for accessing a connection memory

The connection memory of an ATM cell processing system is coupled to the micro processor of the system without a requirement of any glue logic. This is accomplished by decoding the bank select information inside the ATM cell processing system by a special decoder. Two programmable registers are provided to adapt the ATM cell processing system to different implementations of the connection memory by reprogramming these registers.
