An electrode composed of a molded piece molded with a powder containing a main component of a Ti(titanium)-based material or a piece obtained by heat-treating the above molded piece is used. A pulse discharge is caused in an electrically insulating liquid or gas between the electrode and the frictional sliding side or the sliding side of the companion engine part in a part body. By means of the discharge energy, the material of the electrode or the reactive substance of the material is fused to the frictional sliding side or the sliding side of the part body. Thereby, a protective coat having a wearability is formed on the frictional sliding side or the sliding side of the part body.
