The invention relates to an ultrasound converter comprising at least one piezoelectric converter element which consists of a multilayered capacitor structure with a stack of alternatingly arranged electrode layers (22, 23) and piezoelectric layers (24). Each of the electrode layers of the stack extends to respectively at least one lateral insulation surface section of the stack and electric insulation material (27) is arranged for electrical insulation of the electrode layers on each respective lateral insulation surface section (25,26) of the stack. The ultrasound converter is characterized in that the electric insulation material (27) is formed by electrochemical deposition on the lateral insulation surface section. The ultrasound converter consists of mini multilayered piezoactuators. The piezoelectric layers have no or almost no piezoelectrically inactive regions. The ultrasound converter is used in medical diagnoses or in trouble-free analysis of active substances.
