The invention relates to a system and method for determining location, to a corresponding computer program, and to a corresponding computer-readable storage medium, all of which can be used, in particular, for routing incoming emergency calls or miscellaneous Global Positioning System (GPS)-based inquiries to a service center for determining location and providing a supplementary description. In the service center, the geographic position is supplemented with additional information by querying databases containing images and nonpersonal data. To this end, the corresponding aerial photograph is loaded with the additional data. The physical features of the aerial photograph with a specified pixel resolution far greater than that of topographic scanned maps permit a zooming in of up to 50 cm. The coordinates are displayed in the aerial photograph. The service center routes the emergency call of the customer together while indicating the current location in cities and towns with the closest address, optionally together with an excerpt from an aerial satellite photograph map of the server via mobile telephone networks (by arrangement, also over the Internet) within three minutes to the nearest emergency call center or to contracted centers.
