An ultrasonic gas flow meter has a sender and a receiver, a capacitive acoustic converter and a suite of data evaluation electronics. The unit further has an instrument measuring automotive exhaust gas flow. Also claimed is a process to find the gas throughput by determining the average flow speed and the associated quantity of gas by accurately measuring the time taken by two signals to pass from the transmitter to the receiver.
