The invention relates to a rail vehicle drive system comprising a driving motor in the form of a gas turbine, and a gearbox unit arranged between the driving motor and the wheels to be driven. The inventive system is characterised in that the gearbox unit is embodied as a hydrodynamic multicircuit gearbox comprising at least two rotors which are arranged in the direction of the power train in a parallel manner and respectively comprise at least one hydrodynamic rotational speed/torque converter; a reversing and summation gearbox is arranged downstream of the rotors; and means are provided for the transmission of power by an individual rotor to the reversing gearbox or for the common transmission of power by both rotors to the reversing gearbox.
