A method and a device are provided for effecting simulated tide ebb and flow cycles in a container for storing and transporting live marine animals such as shellfish, in particular bivalves such as mussels, clams, oysters and cockles. The cycle enables tide-dependent reaction and movement by the animals, such as in particular the muscle movement of bivalves, which opens and closes the shells of the bivalves, and thereby prolongs the life of the animals, extends possible storage time and enhances the quality and value of the animals as food products.
