The directing ball assembly (1) consists of a sphere (3) protected by a crown (18), sensor rollers (19) and cover (2). It is particularly useful and important in aircraft where it is frequently situated adjacent to a keyboard (15). For maintenance a window panel (5) with captive screws may be removed to allow the crown to be detached and re-jointed and access cleared to the sensor roller balls which are likely to require cleaning.
