The present invention relates to a method and network node (MN, ARi+1) for establishing a secure connection between a network node (MN) and a further network node (ARi+1) after a data transmission handover within a communication network. There are steps and means respectively providing a temporary security association (SA) between the network nodes, wherein the data transmission between them is protected immediately after the data transmission handover (t1) and before the security key information for establishing the secure connection is available (t3).
