The invention relates to a method and a maintenance unit for a computer-based maintenance and/or service management system for injection moulding machines. According to the invention, individual machine axes form functional units and constitute maintenance/service modules. Maintenance prognoses are generated based on the maintenance/service modules. The maintenance unit can also be used for pressure die casting machines. The novel inventive system permits exclusive maintenance planning to be separated from optimal service support, or permits the combination of both. An electronic maintenance/service handbook, a replacement parts list comprising order forms and complete concepts for error diagnosis can be used as basic elements of said system and can be fully networked electronically.
