PURPOSE: An organic vertical cavity laser device including inorganic spacer layers to reduce spectral broadening as a function of input power is provided to reduce largely the spectral line width broadening by using the inorganic spacer layers on an active region. CONSTITUTION: An organic vertical cavity laser device includes a substrate(20), a bottom dielectric stack(30), an active region(40), and a top dielectric stack(50). The bottom dielectric stack is reflective to light over a predetermined range of wavelengths. The active region is used for producing laser light. The top dielectric stack is spaced from the bottom dielectric stack and reflective to light over a predetermined range of wavelengths. The active region includes one or more periodic organic gain regions and inorganic spacer layers disposed on either side of the periodic organic gain regions and arranged so that the periodic organic gain regions are aligned with the anti-nodes of the device's standing wave electromagnetic field.
