摘要

PURPOSE: Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for treating rheumatoid arthritis comprising alpha-lipoic acid well known as an antioxidant or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as active ingredient, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Alpha-lipoic acid reduces the expression of NF-kB and thus inhibits arthritis in a white rat suffering from collagen-induced arthritis. Therefore, it is used as an anti-inflammatory agent for prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for treating rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by comprising a therapeutically effective amount of alpha-lipoic acid or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
