PURPOSE: A compensation control device of a solenoid plunger for an automatic transmission and a method thereof are provided to improve the performance of the automatic transmission and the safety by compensating motion of the plunger linearly in the nonlinear range and moving the plunger corresponding to the desired value. CONSTITUTION: A control unit detects information on a vehicle, and extracts the desired shift range from the shift map table(S101), and a solenoid drives by outputting the duty control signal to engage the desired shift range(S102). In starting shifting into the desired shift range, the present control duty is compared with the predetermined value(S103,S104). The output voltage and the oil temperature are compared with the reference values(S105). Over exciting time of the solenoid is calculated by using algorithm according to the control duty in satisfying the reference value with voltage and oil temperature(S106). Actual over exciting time for driving is calculated by applying the map, and the plunger is moved linearly to reach the desired value by driving the solenoid(S107,S108).
