METHOD FOR DETECTING DISCONTINUOUS TRANSMISSIONS IRRESPECTIVELY OF CHANNEL STATUSES

PURPOSE: A discontinuous transmission detection method is provided to identify an erroneous deletion of discontinuous transmission by maintaining symbol energy metric values for all discontinuous transmissions irrespectively of channel statuses. CONSTITUTION: A discontinuous transmission detection method determines whether a transmission frame associated with a checksum error is due to a discontinuous transmission. Soft symbols corresponding to the transmission frame are combined to obtain an energy term(207). The energy term is normalized to obtain a metric(208), so suppressing an effect of channel statues. The metric is compared with a threshold value to determine whether a non-continuous transmission or an erroneous deletion is generated(210). The normalization includes a dividing operation of the energy term by a normalization factor.
