PURPOSE: A device and a method for automatically controlling the volume of a bell sound of a wire/wireless telephone are provided to automatically change the bell sound according to the telephone use environment of a user by comparing a current time with a stored time and automatically changing the volume of the bell sound when the current time is within the stored time. CONSTITUTION: A keypad unit(20) selects the volume of a bell sound, and sets a bell sound volume change time. A displaying unit(40) displays contents set by the keypad unit(20). A memory unit(30) stores bell sound volume data and bell sound volume change time data set by the keypad unit(20). If a call is received, a control unit(10) controls the change of the bell sound volume. A bell sound adjusting unit(50) adjusts the bell sound volume under the control of the control unit(10).
