TILT STEERING DEVICE HAVING A TILT-LOCK MECHANISM FOR CONVERTING A ROTARY MOTION INTO A RECTILINEAR MOTION FOR A VEHICLE

PURPOSE: A tilt steering device for a vehicle is provided to improve operability of a tilt lever by smoothly changing a rotary motion into a rectilinear motion even if operating load of the tilt lever is changed or overload is generated in releasing tilt. CONSTITUTION: A tilt steering device for a vehicle is composed of a lower steering shaft mounted with a steering gear at the lower end; an upper steering shaft(11) installed with a steering wheel at the upper end; a universal joint for connecting the upper end of the lower steering shaft and the lower end of the upper steering shaft; a lower column member(15) fixed to a vehicle body with supporting movably the lower steering shaft; an upper column member for supporting movably the upper steering shaft; and a tilt-lock mechanism(160) for tilt-locking the upper column member for the lower column member. The tilt-lock mechanism comprises a fixed gear(31) disposed at the lower column member; a movable gear(320) supported to the upper column member to move; a female screw unit installed at the upper column member; a transfer screw bar combined with the female screw unit to pressurize and engage the movable gear with the fixed gear; and an operating member(340) for rotating the transfer screw bar.
