PURPOSE: A welding bead sensing method is provided to automatically stop welding if the existence of a welded welding bead between a welding start point and a welding end point is sensed. CONSTITUTION: A welding bead sensing method comprises steps of setting up the initial variable value for sensing a welding bead portion(201); executing an arc sensing program detecting an arc current produced from the currently progressing welding portion(202); calculating weaving sum data by adding arc current sum data to the weaving sum data having the initial value set to zero(203); determining the number of weaving times is a preset number of times to enhance the reliability of the weaving sum data(204); increasing the weaving sum data if the number of weaving times is not the preset number of times(205) and returning to the second step; obtaining the average representative data by dividing the weaving sum data by the number of the weaving times(206); executing the arc sensing program via the average representative data(207); determining whether a calculated bead detection reference value is less than or equal to the arc current sum data(208); resetting the number of bead detection times to zero(209); increasing the number of bead detection times if the arc current sum data is more than or equal to the bead detection reference value(210); determining whether the number of bead detection times is a predetermined number of times(211); and determining the existence of the welding bead and stopping welding(212).
