MEASURING METHOD OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF AMINO ACID-BASED POLYMER SUCH AS POLY(GAMMA-GLUTAMIC ACID) BY MODIFICATION OF TERMINAL AMINO GROUP WITH SPECIFIC COMPOUND OR FLUORESCENT SUBSTANCE

PURPOSE: A method for measuring the molecular weight of an amino acid-based polymer such as poly(-glutamic acid) by modifying the terminal amino group with a specific compound or a fluorescent substance. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of modifying the terminal amino group of an amino acid-based polymer with a specific compound or a fluorescent substance; decomposing the modified amino acid-based polymer into a unit molecule; and measuring the content of the decomposed amino acid and the content of modified terminal amino acid, respectively, and calculating a molecular weight by using the measured values. Preferably the specific compound is 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (FDNB); the fluorescent substance is 5-(((2-iodoacetyl)amino)ethyl)aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid or 6-bromoacetyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene; and the amino acid-based polymer is poly( -glutamic acid).
