PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for inspecting a display panel by using a pixel interpolation are provided to simultaneously prevent generation of false alarm at the edge portion and detect a defect smaller than one pixel even when comparison distance for detecting a defect of a pixel is randomly set. CONSTITUTION: A scanning part(310) outputs 8-bit gray data by scanning a display panel. A pre-processing part(320) estimates brightness values of pixels overlapped with plural neighboring pixels selected from the first pixel group, respectively and brightness values of the neighboring pixel. A comparison part(330) determines brightness uniformity of the display panel by comparing brightness differences between the brightness value of the present pixel and the estimated brightness values of the neighboring pixels with a predetermined critical value, and outputs a defect image corresponding to the present pixel having a defect. A post-processing(340) obtains characteristics of the detected defect by clustering a defect image data inputted from the comparison part.
