PURPOSE: A method and a system for managing a data session are provided to set a data session between a calling terminal and a called terminal if a data session setup request is received in the called terminal which does not access a data communication network, thereby effectively managing network resources since the called terminal does not have to be always connected to the communication network. CONSTITUTION: A data session service management server(160) receives a data session setup request message including called terminal information from a calling terminal(210), and confirms state information of a called terminal(120)(215). The server(160) checks whether a data session setup is available between the calling terminal and the called terminal(120)(220). If so, the server(160) sends a wake-up short message to the called terminal(120)(230). The server(160) receives a wake-up reply message(250), and transmits a data session setup request message(255). The server(160) receives a data session setup reply message, and sends a data session setup complete message to the calling terminal(270).
