COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTION OF ISCHEMIC NEURONAL CELL INJURY CONTAINING ASTRAGALI RADIX EXTRACT

PURPOSE: A composition for prevention of ischemic neuronal cell injury containing an Astragali Radix extract is provided. The composition can be used as a food and drug for prevent of disease caused by neuronal cell injury. CONSTITUTION: The composition for prevention of ischemic neuronal cell injury contains 0.001 to 50% by weight of Astragali Radix extract. The extract is obtained by extracting Astragali Radix in a solvent selected from water, alcohol and an organic solvent. The composition can contain a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or expient such as water, dextrin or physiological saline. The Astragali Radix extract is harmless to the human body and administered in an amount of 50 to 500mg/kg(weight). For an example, 100g Astragali Radix is ground, soaked in 600ml ethanol at 50deg.C for 2hr, concentrated after removal of ethanol and freeze dried for 48hr to give 9,8g Astragali Radix powder.
