PURPOSE: A lubrication method of a reciprocating piston combustion engine and a device thereof are provided to extend the life span of the piston, the piston ring and the cylinder, and to minimize consumption of lubricant by optimizing the thickness of the lubricant film on the running surface of the cylinder locally. CONSTITUTION: To lubricate a running surface of a cylinder wall of a cylinder(4) in a reciprocating piston combustion engine, a piston is arranged movably in the cylinder and moved back and forth along the running surface of the cylinder. A lubricant film(7) is spread on the running surface of the cylinder wall by using a lubricant nozzle(6), and the parameter characteristic of the lubricant film is decided. The lubricant nozzle is controlled to optimize the condition parameter of the lubricant film on the running surface of the cylinder wall by a control unit(9) including an adjusting unit(10) according to signals from a sensor(8).
