METHOD FOR FORWARDING PACKETS THROUGH AN ETHERNET, ESPECIALLY CONCERNED WITH SIMPLIFYING PACKET FORWARDING PROCEDURES BY REMOVING AN ARP LOOKUP PROCEDURE IN PACKET FORWARDING

PURPOSE: A method for forwarding packets through an Ethernet is provided to simplify packet forwarding procedures by eliminating ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) work as an IP module manages an MAC address necessary for packet forwarding. CONSTITUTION: If an IP module receives an IP packet through an Ethernet(S51), the IP module searches an IP lookup table under its own management by using the terminating IP address contained in the received IP packet(S52). The IP module obtains the output interface information of the IP packet and the MAC address of the next hop through the searching of the IP lookup table(S53). Then the IP module forwards the IP packet to the terminating side through an Ethernet device driver by using the MAC address of the next hop(S54).
