MULTI-FREQUENCY OPTICAL TRANSMITTER AND A BIDIRECTIONAL WAVELENGTH DIVISION MULTIPLEXED SYSTEM USING THE OPTICAL TRANSMITTER, PARTICULARLY FOR COMPENSATING FOR THE LOSS OF EACH CHANNEL CAUSED BY A MODE PARTITION NOISE
PURPOSE: A multi-frequency optical transmitter and a bidirectional WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexed) system using the optical transmitter are provided to amplify multiplexed optical signals in a semiconductor optical amplifier where a gain is saturated, thereby compensating for a mode partition noise while compensating for channel loss. CONSTITUTION: Plural lasers(140) generate wavelength-locked channels by non-interference lights. A multiplexer/demultiplexer(110) multiplexes the plural channels having different wavelengths into optical signals, and outputs the optical signals. A semiconductor optical amplifier(150) amplifies the multiplexed optical signals in a gain saturated state. A broadband light source(120) generates broadband lights including plural non-interference lights. A circulator(130) outputs the optical signals to the semiconductor optical amplifier(150), and outputs the lights outputted from the light source(120) to the multiplexer/demultiplexer(110).
