OPTICAL RECORDING DEVICE, PARTICULARLY CONCERNED WITH RECORDING INFORMATION AT CLV(CONSTANT LINEAR VELOCITY)

PURPOSE: An optical recording device is provided to set an optimum zone layout for each optical disk without depending on a linear velocity or a deflection of a track pitch, and to set each zone layout within a range of not exceeding a limited RPM of a spindle motor, thereby setting a zone layout having the shortest recording time. CONSTITUTION: When an optical disk(1) is inserted, a CPU(12) performs a setup operation, and measures a linear velocity of the inserted optical disk(1). An encoder(8) supplies a pulse signal corresponding to a defined count value to a carriage unit, to move an optical pickup(2) in outer direction of the optical disk(1), and requests a change of a physical address. Based on a changed value of the physical address and the linear velocity, a track pitch of the optical disk(1) is obtained and received in a memory device within the CPU(12) with a value of the linear velocity.
