PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grid type polarization optical element usable from a visible light area to an infrared light area, and to provide a method for continuously manufacturing the element.;SOLUTION: A polypropylene film is stretched fourfold through a roll 12, a 1st air-conditioned tank 13 and a roll 12', thereafter, aluminum metal is vapor-deposited in thickness of 10nm in a vacuum deposition tank 14, further, the film is uniaxially drawn through a roll 15, a 2nd air-conditioned tank 16 and a roll 15' to be double in length, and also, the polypropylene film is partly crystalized. In this case, the aluminum metal is nearly homogeneously cracked in a direction orthogonal to the drawing direction. Thereafter, the film is thermally processed in a 3rd air-conditioned tank 17, thereafter, the film is taken up by a take-up roll 18. The polarization ratio of the obtained film-like polarization optical element in infrared ray wavelength of 1μm to 10μm is 99.5%, and the light transmittance is 90%. Besides, the infrared ray reflectance of the film is ≥99.9% in a state where the two films are made orthogonal to the infrared ray.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
