The invention relates to a device for supplying a gaseous ammonia NH3 in the form to a reduction catalyst arranged in an exhaust gas evacuation system for an internal combustion system, in particular a diesel engine. The inventive device comprises a container connected to exhaust gas evacuation system on the output side thereof by means of a feeding conduit (12) which is used for storing a precursor (3, 3', 3'') releasing NH3, i.e. ammonium carbonate when it is heated. Said device also comprises a heating unit (4) for initiating the NH3 thermolytic release by the precursor (3, 3', 3' '). The device (1, 30) is characterised in that it comprises an electric heating unit (4) which is arranged in the container (2, 31, 31') and connected to a control unit. The heating unit (4) and the precursor (3, 3', 3'') are disposed in the container with respect to each other in such a way that the heating of the NH3 precursor (3, 3', 3'') for initiating the thermolytic release of the NH3 is produced by a direct heat transmission from at least one heated surface (6) of the heating unit (4) to the NH3 precursor (3, 3', 3'').
