Improved tests for detecting proteins in the urine using a reagent system containing buffers and protein error indicators are described. This method, as a buffer system, uses tartaric acid as a cation sensing buffer in combination with a non-cation sensitive buffer to reduce the incidence of false positive results while using less total buffering material.
