PURPOSE: A method for controlling welding traveling speed of automatic welding system so that stickout is constantly maintained during welding operation by calculating stickout from welding current value, thereby controlling welding traveling speed using difference between the present stickout obtained from the calculation and a set stickout. CONSTITUTION: The method for controlling welding traveling speed of automatic welding system for butt connection comprises setting step of setting welding environment of welding voltage, welding current and stickout; welding current value feedback step of feedbacking welding current value of welding machine using current sensor; stickout calculation step of calculating current stickout from feedbacked welding current value; welding traveling speed calculation step of calculating fluctuation of the welding traveling speed using difference between the present stickout and a set stickout; and welding traveling speed changing step of changing the welding traveling speed according to the calculated speed fluctuation, wherein the welding traveling speed is not changed in case that difference between the present stickout and the set stickout is the same as or less than bound value, and the bound value is inputted in the setting step.
