PURPOSE: Provided are a fluorine based copolymer, a gel type polymer electrolyte containing the copolymer and a lithium battery employing the electrolyte to optimize water content of the liquid organic electrolyte to increase conductivity of lithium ions and enhance mechanical property of the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION: The fluorine based copolymer is represented by formula 1(wherein R1 is H or CH3; R2 is (CH2)xCO2(CH2)yCH3, (CH2)xCO2CH2CF3, (CH2)xO(CH2)yCH3, (CH2)xCH3, (CH2)xCN (in which x is a number of 0-10; y is a number of 0-10) and selected from a group consisting of compounds represented by following formulae, provided that n is a number of 1-50 and m is a number of 3-20). The electrolyte comprises the fluorine-based copolymer and a common electrolyte containing lithium salt and organic solvent. The electrolyte is contained in 33-85 weight parts based on 100 weight parts of the polymer electrolyte and the lithium salt has a concentration of 0.5-1.5M.
