The endoscope (2) has an elongated introduction section (11), a tip region (14) on the distal side of this section (11). An elastic element (20) connects the distal end section of the introduction section and the proximal end section of the tip section such that between them, a distance region (15) results of a specified size. An operating wire (19) arranged in a position deviating from the central axis of the distance region, extends to a proximal side of the introduction section through the distance region. So that one end of the wire is fixed at the tip section. A bending mechanism (23,28) is provided, which is connected with a proximal end region of the operating wire, for changing the direction of the tip section at the distance region (15), by pushing or by pulling back the operating wire.
