The shed mechanism at a loom is structured to form a plain weave and a leno weave within a weaving cycle. Within the woven fabric (9), the plain weave (16) and the leno weave (15) are produced simultaneously within a weaving cycle. For the plain weave, the neighboring warps (1L,2L) for the upper and lower shed are taken alternately by the drop wire and needle healds (4) from the lower shed to the upper shed and vice versa during the leno weave. Only the upper shed warps (2P) are taken from the drop wire/needle healds and are raised into the upper shed and lowered into the lower shed for the leno weave.
