The air compressor (5) has a compressor wheel rotatably mounted in a compressor inlet channel and to which combustion air is fed via the channel. A sub-stream of the compressed air is branched off downstream of the compressor wheel and fed to a temperature reduction unit (14). After cooling, the subs-steam is fed to a component of the compressor as cooling air. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an internal combustion engine with an inventive device (b) and a method of cooling an inventive compressor.
