The method involves providing a synchronous byte serial bus and transferring the information in bytes. Control bytes, address bytes and data bytes are transferred using time multiplexing. A central bus master controls the bus transfer and system synchronization. An alarm vector is transmitted or called up using a special alarm transfer. Masters and slaves are synchronized using synchronization transfer. Sixteen bus users or slaves are connected distributed over the entire conductor length. The bus has eight differential data lines, two differential clock lines and one earth line. The synchronizing signals which are transmitted via the bus to the slaves are shifted by an appropriate time delay for correction or compensation of switching or signal propagation times relative to the master synchronization signals. The following criteria are taken into account when applying the time delay: the same time delay should be used for the slave synchronization signal and the slave clock signal, the time is quantized according to an even number multiple of the master base clock period, and the reliable set up parameters are maintained when the control, address and data bytes are recognized by the slaves.
