Operating data capture based on vibration analysis, whereby the actual state of a machine is determined from vibrations caused by it. A sensor is attached to the machine surface for vibration measurement. The vibration attributes, e.g. amplitude, bandwidth and cyclical behavior, are analyzed in order to determine machine operating state. A data transfer path, cable, optical fiber, radio or infrared, can be used to transfer the data to an evaluation computer for analysis.
