The method involves exposing the surface to be dried to at least one radiator (26) with a high penetration depth and a specific surface power of at least 80 kW/m2 for a maximum period of 5 minutes. The surface is subjected to a wavelength of approximately 1.2 microns. The emitted visible component of the at least one radiator is at least partly filtered out. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for drying painted surfaces, especially on automobile bodies.
