The instrument to develop a locally defined acidosis in biological tissue, for a controlled cell denaturing, changes the tissue pH by a locally defined electrolysis. The instrument delivers a controlled application of current, together with a time control. The current flow is through a pair of concentric electrodes as a ring around a sprung center electrode. The center electrode is exchangeable to give a choice of diameters and current densities.
