A valve seat ring obtained by powder metallurgy from a composition containing (wt.%):C (0.8-1.2), Co (16-26), Mo (1.5-2.5), Cr (2.0-3.0), Ni (1.0-2.0), Mn (0.3-0.7), S (0.3-0.7) and Fe (0.3-0.7) as residue. An independent claim is included for a process for preparation of the valve seat from the above composition by powder metallurgy.
