The method involves performing two data communications between an electronic key (6) and a control device of an anti-theft system, during which respective coded data for authentication of the key and for deactivation of an alarm system (5)/immobilizer (7) is exchanged, respectively. Mechanical unlocking of a locking system of the anti-theft system is initiated. The alarm system/immobilizer is deactivated. An independent claim is also included for an electronic anti-theft system with a control device to control a locking system, immobilizer and alarm system, and an electronic key, through which data is communicated with the device.
