The holding arrangement for the holding of a load on a support (29) has an intermediate sub-assembly (8) which on one side is attached to a coupling connectable to the support and on the other side attached to a load base (57) connectable to a load (9). A first sensor (63) is provided to record torque between the load base and intermediate sub-assembly. A locking device (51) is provided to block free pivotability of the intermediate sub-assembly in relation to the support coupling. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a microscope unit with a tripod and holding arrangement; and (b) a method for the balancing out of a load on a support entailing sensing of a first torque between the load and intermediate sub-assembly, and pivoting of the load with regard to the intermediate sub-assembly around a second axis depending upon the recorded first torque.
