The method involves using a manipulator (1) for guiding, positioning and assembling of the self-supporting cockpit (2). The cockpit is connected and/or fastened to the motor vehicle body, and is then released from the manipulator. The motor vehicle body is moved backwards on the assembly line. An independent claim is also included for a positioning device for positioning of the manipulator.
