A process for securing polymers before exposure to UV light, comprises filling them with ultra-fine titanium dioxide. The concentration of the titanium dioxide is adjusted so UV absorption occurs near the surface. The titanium dioxide is in solution. The UV sensitive fibres are protected by applying a polymer coating (7) filled with the ultra fine titanium dioxide. The fibre mantle is elastic and the polymer is polyurethane.
