A system (I) for the production of light-attenuating screens comprises at least two sheets of crossed glass fibres combined to form a latticed screen with a defined aperture factor, coated with a polymeric coating containing titanium dioxide particles which are separated from the glass fibres by layer(s) of polymeric binder. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method for the production of (I) by (a) combining glass fibre sheets as above, (b) impregnating the combination with a 27-47 wt% aqueous emulsion/suspension containing 35-55 wt% vinyl binder, 5-25 wt% polyurethane binder, 20-50 wt% fire retardant, 0.5-3 wt% foam suppressant and 0-0.5 wt% pigment, passing between two rollers and drying to give a coating which makes up 6-15 wt% of the system, (c) impregnating with a 27-47 wt% emulsion/suspension containing 25-45 wt% vinyl binder, 5-25 wt% polyurethane binder, 10-30 wt% fire retardant, 20-40 wt% titanium dioxide, 0.5-3 wt% foam suppressant and 0-0.5 wt% other pigment(s) and then processing as above to give a coating which makes up 4-15 wt% of the system (2) a system (I) obtained by this method .
