Hub-gear shift for a pedal-driven vehicle comprises a gear for forward and backward movement, a back pedaling brake having a brake cone (6) interacting with brake linings, a component acting as an actuating element to produce relative movement between the brake linings and the brake cone, and a brake moment support connected to the vehicle frame via a freewheel device. The hub (1) is axially penetrated by a shaft (7) connected to the pedals. The brake cone is connected to the freewheel device in a rotationally fixed manner and is moved relative to the shaft in a direction of rotation, i.e. the forward direction of the vehicle. The actuating element is connected to the shaft in a rotationally fixed manner. An independent claim is also included for a direct-drive pedal vehicle comprising the above hub-gear shift.
