Device (1) has a control unit (11) that permanently or cyclically polls for the presence of an identification transmitter (4). The control unit is connected to a separate energy source (12) from the motor vehicle battery (2) for its energy supply. The second energy source is rechargeable. It can contain a solar cell and can be recharged while the vehicle is traveling, especially by a generator in the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for: (a) a method of controlling a motor vehicle displacement system, especially a vehicle access system with keyless entry function.
