Medium management for a fuel cell in which at least a supply line (15) and a discharge line (16) of the medium transport system are provided with conveying arrangements (21, 22) which can be operated with varying load. During at least a changeover period in which the flow direction (M1, M2) of the medium flow is reversed, the conveying arrangements are operated with a changeover load, which is different to their load during normal operation. An independent claim is also included for: a corresponding fuel cell system.
