Plastic tube for holding yarn during steam treatment has insert with re-entrant holes to form gutters to hold condensate deposited on interior wall of tube

A plastic yarn tube (2) for yarn that is to be treated with steam is fitted with an insert (3) with holes (4). The holes have side walls (20) inclined at an angle (omega ), e.g. greater than 45 [deg], so that the holes taper radially outward and form gutters (6) against the inner wall (5) of the tube. The insert (3) has an outward rim at both ends and fits against an internal rim at one end of the tube (2). The tube has locating beads and internal projections (15) to prevent relative rotation between insert and tube. The insert (3) has a section that locates on a spindle. The holes (4) can be polygonal, e.g. rectangular, or round. The tube (2) and insert (3) are made of the same plastic material to assist recycling.
