The chassis (1) has a holder (9) for tools and at least three rollers (3-3''), of which at least one is motor-driven, whose axles are joined by a connecting rod (5) and that hold the chassis on the rod-shaped object (2) by clamping it between them when in use. At least two rollers are arranged on one side of the object and at least one on the other side when the chassis is in use. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a method of processing a rod-shaped object.
