Increasing the accuracy of torque estimation for a combustion engine drive train by combining estimations based on engine operating values and torque converter operating value to provide a third optimum estimation value
Method for increasing the quality of a torque estimation value which is characteristic of the torque developed by a combustion engine of a motor vehicle with an automatic gearbox and an intermediary hydrodynamic torque converter. The method has the following steps: determination and storage of a first torque estimation value based on engine operating values; determination of a second torque estimation value based on torque converter operating values and; calculation of a third torque value based on the first two provided the engine is within a defined partial operating range. The invention also relates to a method for operating a drive train of a motor vehicle in which the automatic gear box is controlled in at least partial operating ranges based on a third estimated torque value.
