The method involves indicating acoustic intensities of frequency groups analyses in optical intensities and/or colors in near-real time for recognition of tone and/or sound and/or noise patterns. An acoustic-optical image of the states of the corti-organ under the effect of sound is preferably described using a general form involving the dynamic ranges of the human ear and eye and the frequency resolution of the healthy ear.
